They may not be in the mainstream like the rest, but both Seyi Vibez and Barry Jhay are widely recognized on the streets.
For their brand, that recognition is probably enough. But whether that recognition is enough isn’t even a question.
These guys have huge hits, dedicated fan-bases, a mad social media presence, and millions of streams on digital platforms to show for their hard work.
It’s crazy the influence they have on the streets.
Seyi Vibez, whose earliest ‘hit’ came in 2019, is a Lagos-bred guy who understands what it is to be on the streets, having been born in Ketu and living in Ikorodu.
“Anybody,” one of his widely known songs is a song about appreciating what one has, even as we keep on hustling. It was released in 2019.
Since then, Oluwaloseyi, as he’s popularly referred to as, has released quite a handful of songs that have been popular amongst people on the streets. There’s the Aje-produced “Pay Day,” which is a classic hustler anthem.
His most popular song yet is probably “God Sent,” on which he did his Awade impression.
On his other songs, he’s either praying to God for blessings or giving out some real-life advice. “12:07,” “Catalyst,” “Save Me” and that’s not even all.
Barry Jhay has also been around for quite a while. The popular singer who is the son of the late Fuji legend, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, blew up when he released “Aiye” in 2018, a song that earned him a Street-Hop nomination at The Headies.
Since then, the guy’s been running the streets. He’s got hits for days. There’s “Tomorrow” where he sampled his father, there’s “Barry Back,” “Ashe She,” “Money,” “Ori” and more.
His influence on the street is crazy and his songs have garnered millions of streams. No doubt, the streets are feeling these guys.
Anyway, what do you think?
